Ebay will list about 20,000 new GM vehicles for sale in California on their website. Ebay members have a choice of selecting the “buy it now” price of the vehicle or contact the appropriate dealer for negotiation.

The majority of online car buying sites including Ebay mainly sell used cars. This new venture may open additional channels for vehicle manufacturers to sell more direct to the public. The public may benefit with lower pricing and avoid bargaing with car dealers.

Recently, Ebay’s used car sales have decline and the GM deal may offer a new sales channel to revitalize their Ebay Motors devision. General Motors is looking for all viable sale opportunities  to reverse their negative sales growth and lost of market share. Look for other Vehicle Manufacturers to jump in with their own online sales offerings in the future.
