It was the first time since 1998 that Ford outsold General Motors in monthly sales.

Among the biggest sales increases among Ford car models in the metro area were for Taurus (up 82 percent from February 2009) and Focus (up 72 percent).

“The strength of our new products and Ford’s leadership in quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value are resonating with customers,” Ken Czubay, Ford VP for U.S. marketing, sales and service, said in a statement. “The good news is we have even more new products and fuel-efficient powertrains coming this year, and we expect our progress to continue.”

Electric and Hybrid cars were featured at this week’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Michigan is offering major tax incentives for companies to manufacture Electric and Hybrida Cars and the advanced batteries required for the cars. Battery Factories are making plans to establish a presence in Michigan instead of Asia where many now reside. The Boston Consulting Group notes that batteries could be a $25 Billion market in Japan, the United States, China and Western Europe by 2020.

Consumers will make the final vote on Electric and Hybrid cars by their purchases which cost several thousand dollars more than gasoline-powered vehicles. In contrast to 2009, this year’s Detroit Auto Show seems more positive with a distinct vision for the future.
